Alright, so here's my deal:

UGPA: 3.5 with grade replacement, 3.0 without; GMAT: 790; Law School GPA: 3.6, Top 15% at a top 100 law school; WE: 1.5 years as a law clerk/attorney, 1.5 years as a test prep instructor for LSAT/GMAT/MCAT at a major test prep company

So, basically, what are my chances of getting in at a top program (HBS, Booth, Kellogg)? Obviously my UGPA worries me, as does my lack of WE. What about my law degree? Is that a red flag as well? In general, what can I expect? Is it even worth applying this year or should I wait a year or two?

While your GPA and lack of WE are weaknesses, a law degree in and of itself is not a red flag. However, unlike law school where the all powerful LSAT essentially makes or breaks a candidate, for b-schools your 790 GMAT is not going to make them ignore the rest of your application. You don't mention where you did your undergrad, but I honestly think that HBS is out of the question right now, because they seem to really go for prestige, and since you say that you went to a "top 100" law school, I'm assuming it's toward the bottom of the "top 100". That, combined with low GPA and lack of WE = quick ding from HBS imho. I even think Kellogg and Booth are very long shots.

Get some quality WE, and then I think you have a more competitive profile, as time and additional WE can make your low undergrad GPA seem less relevant to the adcoms.

I am sorry but I don't agree with the post above.. I think you have a really good chance.. Meaning it won't be easy but I really do think you have a great chance.. Business school applications are down.. It's becoming more and more of a number game.. You have an outstanding GMAT score in addition to a good GPA.. As long as you do well on the essays and the interviews I see you being admitted to 3 to 4 schools in the top 10.
