Need objective help about a job offer based on what it would look like for my MBA application. I work in Media Strategy and Insight and am looking to apply to MBA programs with a Media / Entertainment focus for 2015 admissions. (UCLA Anderson, Stern etc)
I worked at Company A for 18 months gaining promotion after 12 months. Moved to Company B for a similar role within a different sector for both the experience (best gained early in the industry) and because job-growth prospects were limited in Company A because of team structure. I didn't enjoy the work in Company B mainly because of the sector it was based in (Retail rather than Media) and so moved to Company C after 6 months.
After 18 months at Company C (back in the media sector) where I have developed my skills in project management and now manage an industry project, and am currently co-managing a new development in the company I have been offered a new role back in a different department of Company A.
This new role would be a promotion 2 levels from where I am currently at - to Head of a Department - and I was recommended for the role based on my work previously at the company and on my subsequent work. It would offer me the chance to lead a small team responsible for the Research and Insight of the company reporting directly into a Director of Marketing.
I am concerned this looks like I am a "job-hopper" and it had been suggested it looks like I am taking the easy option by returning to the company where I started out. To confuse matters more there is the scope for advancement at my current company because of a potential restructure.
Any objective advice people can offer would be a great help! I don't work in an industry where people typically apply for MBAs (although my current mentor thinks it would be a great idea) and am thinking about this from an admissions point of view.
