Hi PersonalMBACoach ,
I am a marine engineer working on cargo ships engaged on international voyages. Now I have planned to pursue an MBA so as to reach the decision making level of this supply and logistic industry.
I need your advise on my short and long term goals. I am not sure how credible they sound because it's just what I want to do and not sure if the adcoms will like it or consider it professional.
Background - Ship Operation , a logistic part of the big supply chain.
Please need your initial assessment on my rough outline. I am more concerned about my long term goal ? Does it sounds unprofessional as it won't have a bigger reach (only limited to seafarer community)...

Hello siamr,
Thank you for the note and detailed overview. You have a very interesting and unique profile! I actually used to work with someone who was in a similar field and ended up at Wharton, so the different career backgrounds and goals do work if executed properly.
I would recommend you firm up your ST goal a bit more, as it sounds like a little bit of a departure to work for Apple or Amazon (despite the function being in line) and then go onto your LT goal. I would recommend targeting something closer to your current / desired industry. In terms of LT goal, it is certainly professional, though you could talk about it at a higher level to alleviate the concern of it being too narrowly focused. Currently you are envisioning a distribution operation for folks at sea, so this can even be broader to capture many different groups of people who may be out on the ocean. I would recommend combining it with some sort of ground distribution as well for when they are on land, but those details don't need to be explained in the essays.
