So, I've decided to wait until next year to apply to B-school. Figured its better to give myself a full year to get my gmat score where it needs to be, and focus my energy on the schools I want. Rushing for R2 doesnt seem needed, regardless of how badly I feel I'm rotting in my current job.
My goal post MBA is to get into Brand Management, or Marketing Research in general.
Undergrad Degree BSBA-Marketing/Finance, while in school worked as the Email Marketing manager at a small Inn for a few years
My W/E post UG
1.5 years as a Market Analyst - large International bank
0.5 Strategic Analyst - Internet Startup, laid off due to economy
Current role - 2.5 IT Security Analyst/DBA - Fortune 100 Discount Retail Company.
Now... since I now have around a year until sending in my applications... and given my goals, would it make more sense to take a pay cut, and get some marketing experience?
Right now, I can position myself as someone with a proven track record as an analyst, with strong quantitative skills and a big picture outlook. I Hate IT... got into it due to my programming ability and pay while I was unemployed. I have always wanted to be a band manager, but lost focus since my undergrad...
Mainly, my passion is in consumer behavior. I'd love to use my quantitative skills, as well as this passion, to excel in a market research analysis/Brand management career. I have a feeling my best bet is to obtain an MBA from a top 10 or 15, to open doors into a large CPG firm or market research company. It this is a good plan?
Also, would gaining experience in my desired field, regardless of how entry level it is, be a good move?
Thanks for the insight!
