Hello!
Let's keep it short, here are the 2 questions I'm asking:
- Can an MBA at McGill / Rotman help me achieve my goals (see below to see what they are)?
- Do I have a chance of getting accepted with scholarship at McGill or Rotman?
I am a 29 year-old French engineer, with a background in Electrical Engineering. I have a bachelors degree from a well known university in France, and a masters degree from the University of Montreal, where I studied mostly machine learning.
I worked as a Data Scientist for about 2 years in France in a well known industrial company, and then joined a startup in Paris where I worked as a Data Engineer for another 2 years. I took a new job last year as a Data / Machine Learning Engineer in Canada, so that makes a total of 5 years in Analytics in an international environment.
I have Canadian PR.
My Goals:
I'd like to explore opportunities in "still technical but less purely technical positions" (read Architect or Product Manager or CTO) in Canada / North America / Europe in the future, and I thought doing a 1-year MBA could be a great opportunity to boost my network and gains skills in areas I currently know almost nothing about (Marketing, Accounting...). I do not want to change my career, but mostly gain complementary skills and boost my network.
I love McGill University (I took classes there as a student) and because they offer a 1 year MBA I'm thinking it could be a great fit. Please provide feedbacks if you have any.
Also, I took the GMAT after studying for a couple of months, and I got a slightly disappointing score of 670 V38 Q44 (I had an average of 700 on the 6 official mock tests), but it seems to be fairly in the range of both McGill and Rotman GMAT scores. Should I re-take it if I want to get a scholarship, or do you think my international profile could compensate? (I feel like my Q44 could be compensated by he fact that I have a STEM degree + 5 years of exp in Analytics)
Thanks a lot!
