Hello every one,

I have a 650 GMAT and i just notice that some top schools require less competitive GRE. For example HAAS has a GMAT average of 727 whereas the GRE average is 660. The same thing can be noticed on for the 80% range.

Hi

Could you please explain what you mean by GRE 660? So far I know the total GRE score is 340. Then, what is the minimum score that requires to be accepted at HAAS?

Thanks

Hi Michael122112,

As everyone else has pointed out, the GRE is currently scored out of 340 (170 for Quant, 170 for Verbal), so I assume that you are quoting a 'GRE equivalent' of a GMAT Score. That data point defines the Average GRE Score for those who were ADMITTED to HAAS; however, as the overall MBA Application involves a number of different 'pieces', you have to be careful about assuming that earning a similar GRE Score would increase your chances of getting accepted at that School (especially if there are any 'weak spots' in your Overall profile). This is meant to say that if you have a strong Overall profile, then you might be fine applying with a GRE Score that is 'equivalently lower' than the Average GMAT Score of 727 - but if your profile is 'average', then you need to find ways to improve whichever pieces you can (and the GMAT/GRE Score is one of those pieces that can potentially be improved a great deal in a relatively short time period).

1) Have you taken the GMAT or GRE yet? If you have, then how did you score?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

You are right, even I observed that for most schools. However what is also true is that the percentage of admits with GRE is on the lower side. Some cases it is lesser than 10%. Hence by weightage GMAT would be a more relevant score. Most schools you would be better off with 327++ score.

Additionally (fwiw) till last year only GMAT scores were used by college rankings.

I would take equivalents of the GMAT and try score on GRE. Overall either of the exam can be easier depending on the one that favors your strength.

I switched from GMAT to GRE and could get a considerable increase.

Hi Michael122112,

In addition to what has been said, it’s also important to know how you may perform on the GRE to see if it would even be worth making the switch.. Have you taken an ETS practice exam to get a baseline score?
