Hi,

I have an admit from IESE but am ruminating over the question whether to go ahead with it or not. I am a Finance Transformation consultant with 8 years of experience working with EY and Accenture and intend to work at MBBs as Strategy Consultant post MBA.

My primary concern is the Recruitments considering the huge school fee. Although IESE Employment Reports show great numbers in the past, not sure how they would be in near future considering the pessimistic state of the world and job cuts. In this scenario, does it make sense to take the bet?

Opinions are welcome.
Thanks
@Karan0912 - You've raised an important point, which many candidates, including at M7's, are concerned about. Let me share my perspective.

In 2020, when the global market was basically shut down, there was uncertainty looming around - many lost jobs, small/ medium businesses closed, etc. Just around a year later, things took a complete turn: people were getting hikes for switching between companies. Now, around 2 years later, we're in an environment with several macro and geopolitical uncertainties e.g. inflation, wars, etc.

If you'd joined B-school in 2019, you wouldn't have predicted (or been prepared for) what came a year later. Similarly, you couldn't have predicted the hot job market in 2021/ 2022, or the wars in 2022/ 2023. This means what you would actually need to worry about i.e. market situation when you graduate, isn't something you can predict. And by you, I mean anyone.

As a result, the best protection towards uncertainty is a strong brand, alumni network, and persistent efforts, which can help cross the near-term uncertainties. If the school's statistics include a good % of alumni in your target companies/ geographies, and you work hard (i.e. network, prepare for interviews etc.), you usually end up doing well. Make sure to speak to IESE alum in your target roles and already start building a network, which would be helpful if/ once you join. Also have a plan-B, which is something less uncertain i.e. building on your past experience.

Hope this helps a bit.

Regards,
Arvind
