A) Commedia dell'Arte, a form of Italian theater, consisted of a humorous performance by professional actors who traveled in troupes throughout Italy in the 16th century; the more famous groups—most notably the Compagnia dei Gelosi—conducted productions abroad, spreading the art form throughout the continent.
Separated by ; - the latter part is a full clause but doesn't connect with the main clause. Also, it doesn't make sense to say that since they (famous group) conducted production abroad, their activity resulted in spreading the art form.

B) A form of Italian theater, Commedia dell’Arte consisted of a humorous performance by professional actors who traveled in troupes throughout 16th century Italy—most notably the Compagnia dei Gelosi—and who conducted productions abroad, spreading the art form throughout the continent.
correct answer

C) Commedia dell’Arte troupes—most notably the Compagnia dei Gelosi—that traveled throughout Italy in the 16th century, conducted performances abroad and spread the art form throughout Europe, were a form of Italian theater consisting of humorous performances by professional actors.
should be joined by a conjunction
Troups were a form of Italian theater?
