'the examination found' is bothering me too. the result of the examination can indicate whether tonsils were diseased.

These two statements sound like two disparate events, but, in reality, physical examination revealed that the tonsils were diseased.
It'd sound better for statements such as;
When the physical examination was completed, Joe knocked the door.
When the physical examination was completed, patient took a sigh of relief.
In this case, however, "C" doesn't convey the intended meaning as beautifully as "E" does. Moreover, E is less wordy.
