Hi everyone,
December 2014 I made up my mind that I have to switch my career and opt for a Full Time MBA Program preferably in North America. I started preparing for GMAT right from December. As someone advised me that focus on your GMAT first , attempt and score , then go for the admission process , think about the b-schools you want to apply and the application process thereafter.
But recently someone advised me that I should do both together , start preparing for MBA admissions along with GMAT prep. He said some universities accept your Applications even without GMAT score and can wait till your GMAT scores. .
I have very few friends who can guide me, but i guess on GMATClub i have a lot of friends who can really guide me well on how should I proceed.
Currently, I didnt even check what is required for admission, about LOR's etc., I was just preparing for GMAT. Now i feel kind of nervous of missing deadlines if I didn't go planned.
Please Guide me friends. Need your expert guidance. Consider me a total novice in the adm-process.
Thanks

Hi siamr,

There are a number of factors that you need to consider when applying to Business School. There are actually too many for me to name in one post, but I'll get you started with some of the "big picture" ideas, and you can define your own goals/timeline from there.

Most Business Schools have a standard set of application "rounds", which normally begin with a "first round" in October (although there are some exceptions). Round 2 is typically in December or January; Round 3 (if there is one) is normally in March/April and some Schools/Programs have a Round 4, which is later.

You need to be specific with WHY you want your MBA. Business Schools tend to prefer applicants who can explain WHY they need a specific degree, from that specific School, at that specific time. So you have to think about the specifics of YOUR situation (what you want out of the degree) and research Schools that offer programs that match your goals.

One part of the application process is the GMAT score (and it's an important part of the process, so you have to make sure that you put in the proper amount of time and effort). You can learn about what each Business School requires by visiting each School's website (although you can expect a fairly similar application from most Schools).

If possible, you'll likely find it advantageous to focus on the GMAT now and work on the other parts of the application later.

But if we don't research and select b-school, how will we put schools names at the test center ?

Hi rma26,

I highly suggest that you research/define the Business Schools that best match what you're looking for in an MBA - if for no other reason than you'll have a better idea of the type of GMAT score that would be 'in the range' of what those Schools consider acceptable. Some Test Takers don't do that type of research before taking the GMAT though - and the Schools that they choose on Test Day are some mix of 'local' Schools and highly-ranked Programs that have name recognition.
