So, I was just invited to a Connect with Bain workshop, but it's taking place on what was supposed to be my last day of work...

Does anyone have any experience with this type of event? How crucial/important is it for me to attend?

I'm a career switcher and a boderline candidate. I wanna go "all-in" for management consulting when I go back to school, but at the same time I've verbally told my boss already that this day was my last day and I'd feel really bad changing it on him and moving it up a day.

Any kind of input would help...

Is it actually at one of their offices or is it an online event (I know they do both)?

Will it impact your ability to get an interview/internship? NO

Will it allow you to make a connection with someone at their office who you can then chat with more during the fall semester? YES (Assuming that it's in the office)

Note that you can make those same connections during the school year. However it's good to get an overview about Bain and what they do. It's more for your own knowledge than anything else.

So you don't think meeting people in the local office will help at all getting an interview? I know once you get an interview, your chances are based on your performance in the case...

Alright, your statement is true to a certain extent. Meeting people in the local office, making a good impression and maintain contact throughout the recruiting process, all comes into play (my guess) when companies extend interview invites. This event is an opportunity to learn more about Bain and get a feel for the local office before the school year starts. You will have time to do the same things during the school year so by no means will this "make or break" your chances. Make sense?

I think I'll take the approach that the event is more for my own information. I'm still curious about a few of the differences between the Big 3 and hopefully this event will be informative while allowing me to me other hopeful MBA candidates and interesting people. :-D

It might vary from office to office. But the one I was invited to is in the morning and if I make it back to work there will only be a few hours left.

I think it'd be better if I just make my last day the day before...

Id go to the event over anything else related to a job you are leaving. Maybe you can offer to come in an additional day if you still need to wrap up transferring your workload to another person?
