Consumers are deeply concerned about the quantity of plastic packaging on the market and have spurred manufacturers to find ways to recycle plastic materials. Despite their efforts, however, only 6.5 percent of plastic is being recycled, as compared to 33 percent of container glass.
Each of the following, if true, helps to explain the relatively low rate of plastic recycling EXCEPT:
(A) Many factories are set up to accept and make economical use of recycled glass, whereas there are few factories that make products out of recycled plastic.
(B) Many plastic products are incompatible and cannot be recycled together, whereas most containers made of glass are compatible.
(C) The manufacture of new plastic depletes oil reserves, whereas the manufacture of new glass uses renewable resources.
(D) Unlike glass, which can be heated to thousands of degrees during the recycling process to burn off contaminants, recycled plastic cannot be heated enough to sterilize it.
(E) Plastic polymers tend to break down during the recycling process and weaken the resulting product, whereas glass does not break down.

I marked D). My method.:
Consumers push for recycling plastic -> recycling rate too less compared with glass.
Something must be prohibiting the plastic recycling %. Is it became it's difficult to recycle?
D) talks about Sterilization of place. Are we concerned about sterilization? No. Doesn't seem relevant. Except question. So D it is.
Also if this question has already been discussed, please share the relevant link.

D should not be the correct answer as it tells a reason that since plastic couldn't be sterilized too a large extent hence they could be less useful. Hence, factories might not be focusing on items that are not/less useful.
Whereas in C, it says plastic manufactures deplete oil reserves while glass manufactures use renewable resources. But it doesn't seems to provide any reason for less plastic production compared to glass. Hence, Answer should be C.

(A) If manufacturers are unable to make use of recycled plastic they won't be interested in recycling the same.
(B) Since most glass products are compatible and recycled it gives us a hint why manufacturers are recycling glass containers more.
(C) Out of scope
(D) Presents a drawback of plastic in comparison to Glass , and shows that recycling glass is easily possible.
(E) Talks in favour of glass , hence justifies the greater percentage of glass being recycled.
Considering all the options (C) is the best to me
