While starting for the AWA section, I thought I should rather complete the CR Flaw section from Powerscore CR Bible & converge them with the summary of flaws listed in the IR & Essay Strategy Guide (MGMAT 5th Ed).
Here's my notes - Please feel free to add/comment .
Flaw Categories
#1 : Alternate Cause ( When Author asserts X causes Y ) - Correlation != Causation - After ! = Because (The sequence of events is confused with causality) - Past != Future (the relationship holds true in future because relationship was true in the past)
#2 : Unforeseen Consequence (When author proposes Plan A to achieve Goal B)
- Nothing's perfect : How can this Plan fail ? does it have any caveats / challenges to implement? - Isn't it ironic : What side effects with Plan A have ? does it trigger a parallel effect that might jeopoardize the occurance of achieving goal B? - Skill != Will : Assumes one of (a) having necessary resources is sufficient and ignores the acceptability of plan - and (b) plan is acceptable but the necessary skills are nearly impossible to acquire. - Troubled Dilemma (from CR Bible) : Assumes that Plan A is the only way to achieve plan B ( e.g., assumes just two alternatives when both together or more alternatives exist to achieve Goal B)
#3 Faulty Use of Evidence (this section has lot of new flaw types in CR Bible) -- ( to be contd from here) #4
#5
