In the past century formerly consensual perceptions of the human palate have changed significantly. Man's culinary likes and dislikes have proved to be less culturally ingrained in society than was once thought and dishes foreign to many cultures have proliferated in these cultures across the globe in the last 100 years. A company marketing packaged goods from Country X has deduced that it will be profitable to market its packaged goods of Country X's cuisine to Country Y.

The company's deduction must rely on all the following assumptions EXCEPT:

a) Country Y will accept packaged goods.

b) Country Y will enjoy the specific foods of country X.

c) There is a way to transfer packaged goods from Country X to Country Y.

d) The company is the first from Country X to export packaged goods to Country Y.

e) The price the citizens of Country Y are willing to pay for the company's packaged goods exceeds the price of research, production, and shipping the company must invest to sell its goods in Country Y.

Note:- It would be really appreciable if someone can explain the question.

Thanks a lot !!!

D is not relevant and hence not an assumption

Thanks a lot !!!

a) Country Y will accept packaged goods. ---- If it doesn't accept packaged good, not profitable.

b) Country Y will enjoy the specific foods of country X. ---- The foreign dishes are proliferating in the cultures

c) There is a way to transfer packaged goods from Country X to Country Y. ---- If it is not feasible the argument wont make any sense

d) The company is the first from Country X to export packaged goods to Country Y. ---- Nowhere mentioned. It can be the 5th one and still be profitable.

e) The price the citizens of Country Y are willing to pay for the company's packaged goods exceeds the price of research, production, and shipping the company must invest to sell its goods in Country Y. ----- This is how it will be profitable. This is what the argument demands.

Thanks a lot !!!

a) Country Y will accept packaged goods. Necessary assumption. If Y does not accept packages goods, the company cannot market its packaged good

b) Country Y will enjoy the specific foods of country X. Necessary assumption. If Y does not does not enjoy the foods, the company will not earn profits from its packaged good

c) There is a way to transfer packaged goods from Country X to Country Y. Necessary assumption. If Y cannot transfer the goods, the company will not earn profits.

d) The company is the first from Country X to export packaged goods to Country Y. Not necessary. The company may not be the first to export to Y and still earn profits. Hence, the correct answer.

e) The price the citizens of Country Y are willing to pay for the company's packaged goods exceeds the price of research, production, and shipping the company must invest to sell its goods in Country Y. Necessary assumption. If Y is not willing to pay more than what the company spends, the company will not earn profits .
