Please help me with detailed description and answer on this question:
Question: A group of business school students studying group dynamics completed a project that compared two groups of undergraduates. The two groups were assigned the same tasks, but Group 1 was asked to choose a leader by lottery while Group 2 was allowed to choose its leader in whatever way its members wanted. Group 2 finished the task expertly and quickly, while Group 1 took longer and performed the task only adequately. The business school students concluded that giving the group some autonomy in making decisions increased the potential for efficient work.
Which of the following statements, if true, offers the most support for the conclusion reached by the business school students?
A. The students in Group 2 had higher grade point averages and standardized test scores than did the students in Group 1.
B. The task given to both groups was more interesting to some students than others.
C. None of the students in the two groups had any special skills relevant to the assigned task.
D. At a local factory, giving the workers some autonomy resulted in increased production.
E. There is a direct correlation between workers' perceptions of the desirability of the task and their efficiency in accomplishing it.
Please let me know the answer and its explaination.
Thanks.

I think its C...this choice fills in the necessary assumption and shows that the two groups were similar in skills at the start of the task and the autonomy did result in the efficiency.
I'm a bit confused between C and D.
I agree with the explanation given by Vineet.
But from D we can conclude that autonomy does increase the efficiency.
Of the two I would go for D.
First eliminate the answers which does not support the conclusion, but instead weaken it.
The answers which weaken the conclusion will declare that students of 2 groups have different abilities and that's why one group performed better than the other.
The answers which support the conclusion will affirm that students of both groups have similar abilities and the only reason for the success of one particular group is that this group had autonomy in making decisions

A. The students in Group 2 had higher grade point averages and standardized test scores than did the students in Group 1. - WEAKENS
B. The task given to both groups was more interesting to some students than others.- WEAKENS
C. None of the students in the two groups had any special skills relevant to the assigned task. - SUPPORTS
D. At a local factory, giving the workers some autonomy resulted in increased production.-IRRELEVANT
E. There is a direct correlation between workers' perceptions of the desirability of the task and their efficiency in accomplishing it. - WEAKENS
"Support" ( or similar) is often just a statement that shows THE primary assumption behind the conclusion. Or shows "the link" between the conclusion and the premises it is based on.
