Hi gmatuser001234,

To start, you should be averaging between 2:00 - 2:30 minutes on your CRs, so considering the accuracy that you claim to have in this area, you don't need to be focused on CR right now. If you're facing pacing issues during your CATs (re: you have to rush through a bunch of questions just to finish on time), then the root of that issue is in how you're handling SC and/or RC.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Any tips on how to increase my CR accuracy along with timing? As of now, if I take 2-2:30 mins per CR, my accuracy>90%. However, when I have <2mins, my accuracy drops to <80%. My current approach to CR questions is to read the question, understand and then try to guess the answer before looking though the answer choices.

Hi gmatuser001234,

The primary skill that helps you solve CR questions under optimum time is the ability to pre-think. This ability to pre-think can be developed if you understand the underlying framework of CR questions. Most CR questions are framed based on a certain framework. Understanding that framework will help you pre-think the assumption before jumping into answer choices. Once you pre-think the assumption, you can eliminate the answer choices which are not in-line with your pre-thought assumption. You can refer to the following video to understand the gist of the framework.

Before you start to pre-think, it is important that you identify the individual components of the argument. This will help you understand the scope of the passage. Below is the difference between the process of solving a CR question using general strategy and using the right methodology.

General strategyMethodical approach
Read the argument Read the argument and identify the premise and conclusion
Read the question stemRead the questions stem and start pre-thinking
Jump into statements and evaluate each optionStart eliminating answer choices which do not match the pre-thought assumption

Hope it helped. Make sure you do not time yourself while learning the methodology. Spend considerable time in analyzing solutions. Feel free to write back if you have any queries. All the best :)

Hi gmatuser001234, this timing on CR is actually not all that bad! What makes you worried?

Can you let us know how much time per question are you spending on SC and RC?
