Hello BB,

Apologies and thanks for responding

As mentioned above I haven’t given Gmat yet and I am planning to start my prep from August with a target to accomplish till September.

Fortunately I can start my preparations along with my work so I give it a thought to use this time in preparing for Gmat.

I needed advice whether I can achieve as per the plan I have mentioned above ?

Thanks,
Akash

Hi Guys,

I will be starting my Gmat prep from August and I am targeting to give the exam by September end.
Target score 750+ in 2 months with 4-5 hours per day study.

1. Can you guys suggest how should I start and is this time sufficient to crack Gmat with above score?

I am not planning to do any online courses since I can see lot of materials which are available in Gmat club.
I have few questions in terms of my preparation within above timeline:-
I am targeting to finish these many questions during 2 months time along with free and official mocks ->
DS- 500+
PS - 500+
SC- 100+
CR- 200+
RC- 120+ passages

2. Does it look fine or I need to work more on above?

3. Study plan- There is a monthly plan of Magoosh and one self study plan shared by Gmat club.
Any reviews about these two ?
If I will go thru Magoosh one, then I will be referring to the same study plan with my reference materials.
What do you think will it be fine or I should definitely go for some online courses ?

4. I feel that the key area which I need to improve is my reading skills with lore focus either for quant or verbal. To achieve this I had started to read some novels over fiction and philosophy like One Indian gal, Charles Darwin,Immortals of Meluha ,The Secret of Nagas, The oath of Vayuputras, You can win, Sophies World.
Do you think that I should still continue reading any such novels for increasing my reading speed ? Or should I go for journals, newspapers and articles from different genre?

Key highlights about my carrier and education -
I am having a 5+ years of IT HR consulting experience.
I am currently working with Oracle India Pvt. Ltd.
I have completed my BTech in Electronics And communication.

Please do let me know where I will face difficulties in my plan to achieve my targets :)

Best Regards,
Akash

I think you can at least try the Free mock test from Economist or Manhattan for the first attempt.
Then you will know where you should start. In my opinion, the non-native will stuck at verbal and we cannot increase the score to V40.
That what happen to me right now.
Doing the question and read the comments here is really help because you will see how the others solve question much more in easier way.

Hope you find my comments useful.

That will be better

I will surely take one mock before I start my preparation.

Regards,
Akash

A few pointers from my experience:
1. As already mentioned, take a mock first to understand where you currently stand and what are the areas of improvement. FOr a 750+ score, you cannot neglect any part. You'll have to do well on all fronts.
2. Moving ahead with a fixed target of solving X questions might not be the optimal way. You might take 2X questions to master one thing and X/2 to master another. The key is continuous monitoring of your progression.
3. There are several study plans available in GMATClub and on other websites. However, don't take a plan to be the pill for success. your requirements are unique. It is important to be self-aware and put the effort in the right direction to generate optimum results.
4. Besides a study plan, also take regular mocks to keep track of your progress. Take at least one mock on alternate weeks initially and then move to one per week and two per week later.

Good luck!

As said by bb, it is of utmost importance what your current score is? Only then we can decide how much time you will need to score a 750+. It may take more than 2 months to reach the target most of the times as breathing space is very less at that level  .

Study plans are no absolute and you must be ready to change things as and when required. Go to mba.com and try a free GMAT prep test.

One personal advice is practice RC daily, otherwise you may find yourself in deep trouble after 2 months.

Hi Akash,

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back and we can discuss the results.

As far as your timeline and goal are concerned, there are some factors to consider. First, many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so with just 2 months of study time, you will likely limit how much you can improve. In addition, the 750+ score is essentially the 98th percentile - meaning that 98% of Test Takers either CAN'T or WON'T do what it takes to earn that type of Score. This is meant to say that while you can start off studying however you choose, you will almost certainly have to make adjustments to your plans

1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi Akash2703,

I’m glad you reached out and I’m happy to help. As others have mentioned, you should start by taking a full-length practice test from MBA.com. I realize that you may not take that exam until the end of August; however, once you do, please report back with your score breakdown, and I’d be happy to provide further advice.

You also may find my article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT helpful.

Feel free to reach out with further questions.

Good luck!

Hi All,

Thanks for responding to my queries and providing me with valuable guidances ...

It took me some time to respond since I was preparing to give my 1st Mock which didn’t go well in my case :-(

I have taken one GMAT prep test (Exam1) with a much low score of 440 (QA 39, VA 20). It seems I am quite far from achieving my target.
Having said that, few things I would like to share :-
1. I was not able to complete my quant and VA sections on time.
Quant-25
verbal-23

2. Although I scored less but I feel that I am ok with the concepts on quant. To improve in my next test I will be working on the quant section topic wise .

3. It seems I got all the CR questions wrong. So I will be focusing on these questions for my next test.

4. I am thinking to give another mock after 20 days to see my progress.

Atleast in the coming tests I should be able to cross a 600 mark then I can think of 700+ target.

With my score what do you think if I can achieve a 600+ mark in a month ??

Once again thanks for all your advice!! I will keep on updating my progress with you guys :-)

Best Regards,
Akash
