Interesting. How is RTP area for non-biotech VC/Start-ups? My concern is that the vast majority of the start up scene and VC$ is going towards the medical industry, and not much else.

Its mostly biotech. Go on the Research Triangle Park website and take a look at the companies headquartered there. That should give you a good sense of the region.

There is a diversity of different startup activities in the area now, and growing very quickly. Here are examples of programs that were accepted into NC Idea: https://www.ncidea.org/content/grant+recipients/4414

Thanks for that link asimov. I guess what I see there is bio-tech and a smattering of tech stuff. That a fair assessment? It seems like Darden pushes into more diversified industries and has more inroads into the DC Start-up/VC network?

Saw that you chose Darden - congrats!

As for RTP, the tech scene is definitely growing, but is not as strong as the one in DC. There are quite a few up and coming tech startups and plenty of resources for tech entrepreneurs. There has been a significant effort by the RTP foundation to foster more entrepreneurship in the region. A main issue is that RTP is very spread out and there aren't that many centralized locations where entrepreneurs can meet and work. The incubators asimov mentioned are fantastic and there are lots of support. American Underground is a nice little hub of startup activity. The majority of P4E startups have been tech.

I participated in the P4E program in my first year and it was an amazing experience. I'm not sure how Darden compares to Fuqua, but entrepreneurship is definitely institutionalized and thriving at Fuqua.
