Congrats on the success with GU. Re your post MBA goal of manufacturing, please exercise extra care since very, very few manufacturing firms hire internationals or sponsor H1B.

Hey Dee,
So my immediate goal after I graduate is to get into brand management roles and on the long run, become an entrepreneur in the manufacturing sector, which will most probably be in my home country.

There's no option to mention marketing/brand management/product management here😅

My observation may still hold good as the reference is to how the company gets classified. e.g., marketing and brand management roles in CPG firms will still not be forthcoming because rarely any CPG firm in the US sponsors H1B. However, marketing/brand management/PPM in, say, Amazon may be possible since Amazon sponsors. Of course, only you know what's on your mind :-). Best wishes.

Long term goal: Expand business to emerging markets such as middle east, india, etc.

Short term goal: work in Supply chain management role in tech or other industries that hire international students to get global supply chain management exposure which will help me achieve my long term goal.
Background: 6 years worked in Security Systems family business in Kuwait (Product manager) playing key role in launching a new product line (Luxury Safes), set up supply chain and doubled revenue of the division, currently moved the operations from vendor based to inhouse production by acquiring a failing factory and I was involved in the acquisition (last 3 years as operations consultant - part time).
3 years worked as broadcast operations engineer in an automated broadcast plant, it's 24/7 production environment following manufacturing policies and practices.
I am trying to figure out what universities are best for my goals to pursue Supply Chain Management. Please advise.

Hey, @K Thomas

Having a sound academic background and excellent experience in product management and operations consulting, you are a perfect candidate for an MBA concentrating in Supply Chain Management. Here is a list of schools that may be right for you – McCombs, Kelley, Fisher. These universities have well-regarded SCM programs with international focus that go well with your future plan of expanding to developing countries.

Other top contenders include Owen, Ross, and Scheller, which all offer Operations Management concentrations or related fields associated with your interests in SCM. Briefly study the course outlines and instructors’ areas of expertise in regard to supply chain management, giving priority to schools linked up with either consumer electronics or technology corporations as per your post-MBA plans.

When you highlight your accomplishments in product management, logistics structuring, and international trade in your application essays and have them customized to fit each program of the school, you will demonstrate a strong profile and improve your chances of being admitted into a leading supply chain management program.

Your 2 years of WE on matriculation will be significantly lower than the typical average / range. What might work in your favor a little bit is your score (though your ORM status doesn't help) and (my inference from your goal) that you plan to return to India to rejoin your family business immediately after the MBA. If the latter is not the case, then think again.

Hi Srinivas

Key Questions considering applying in R2 this year.
Which universities would be classified as dream, target, and safe options based on my profile?
Almost all the schools on your list will fall into the dream category due to your significantly lower work experience. The schools take your admissions decision basis the quality work you present counted up till the date of the application.

Are my post-MBA goals distinct and compelling enough to appeal to M7/Top 15 programs?
Your goals are all over the place. Entrepreneurial goals right after MBA do not go well especially with the US B school programs. I feel you are missing the much-needed deep due diligence on the goals strategy.

How effectively can I align my MBA aspirations with my professional goals to make a compelling case for admission?
This needs a longer discussion. Feel free to reach out

Hey @shrinivas_5 , I hope all is well.

Your profile combines a unique academic background with quick progression in the B2B finance industry, which positions you well for an MBA focused on leadership and entrepreneurship. With dual degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Biological Sciences from BITS Pilani and a GMAT score of 705, you bring a strong analytical foundation. Your fast-track promotion from Associate to Manager at a leading B2B lending firm in less than a year showcases your ability to drive impact, particularly in operations and revenue growth which is an asset for your goal to lead and diversify your family’s automotive manufacturing business. To enhance your application, focus on aligning your goals with specific MBA program offerings and clearly articulating how each program will prepare you to transition from finance to manufacturing, particularly in sectors like energy and biotechnology. You should focus on how to quantify your work impact and highlight instances of cross-functional or international collaboration to emphasize your leadership potential. Additionally, you can consider targeting a range of programs, dream schools like Wharton and Booth, target options like LBS and Oxford Saïd, and safe choices such as ISB and Emory. What's going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story to stand out from other applicants in the pool.

If you’d like, we are happy to discuss your profile in depth and assess your chances to top B-schools and strengthen your application with impactful stories.

Cheers!

Hi Athul Sasi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your profile looks strong with 9 years of experience in a major PSU energy company, where you’ve mentioned managing corporate accounts in industries like pharma, petrochemicals, and chemicals. Your experience brings you with a strong foundation in B2B sales, marketing, and logistics.

Your post-MBA goal to transition into consulting, particularly within the energy or petrochemical sector, aligns well with the strategic and analytical skills you will be gaining from an MBA. Plus, speaking about your academics, your GMAT score is pretty strong along with a decent GPA. Make sure you bring in strong and customized essays to cater to individual schools.

Hey @Athul Sasi ,

Your profile looks great with 9 years of experience in the energy sector, particularly in business development and managing corporate accounts, is strong. Your experience in handling major corporate clients across diverse sectors like pharma, petrochemicals, and chemicals gives you a well-rounded skill set that is highly valued in consulting, especially within the energy or petrochemical sectors.

Your GMAT score of 695 is great for M7 and top b-schools. Given that your background is in a specialized industry like energy, you’ll need to demonstrate how your experience translates into the consulting world and how you can contribute to and benefit from the MBA program. Your undergraduate GPA of 8.5 from a leading Indian institution is strong and shows good academic capabilities. Make sure you clearly articulate how an MBA will facilitate your transition into consulting. Be specific about the types of consulting roles you're targeting (e.g., management consulting, strategy consulting in energy firms) and the value your experience brings to the table. Focus on highlighting any leadership roles you’ve taken within your job. For instance, have you led teams/projects that resulted in growth for your company or client satisfaction? If possible, you might want to engage in more extracurricular activities or initiatives, either professionally or personally, that can show your broader leadership skills or community involvement. This will demonstrate your all-around capabilities.

What’s going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story to stand out from other applicants in the pool.

If you’d like, we are happy to discuss more details about your academics, work experience, leadership roles, challenges faced, achievements, impact, post- MBA goals and extracurriculars to assess your chances better and strengthen your application with impactful stories.

Cheers!

Hey @Custard King ,

With 10 years of experience in the non-profit and government sectors, your profile demonstrates significant leadership, impact, and a strong sense of purpose. A 4.0 GPA indicates great academic performance, which is a solid asset for competitive MBA programs. Transitioning to consulting is a logical next step given your background, as consulting firms often seek candidates with diverse experiences and the ability to navigate complex organizational challenges. To strengthen your application, you shall focus on highlighting specific achievements, such as policy reforms, large-scale projects, or measurable social impact. Emphasize your leadership roles and any examples of problem-solving, strategic thinking, or cross-sector collaboration. If you have managed budgets, led teams, or driven initiatives that resulted in positive outcomes, ensure these details are well-articulated in your essays.

With a target GMAT score that matches or exceeds the average at top MBA programs (700+ for M7 or leading European schools) will be crucial to make your application strong. Good letters of recommendation from senior colleagues or influential leaders in your field will further enhance your profile. Good luck!
