How much should I aim for gmat focus to get into ISB,LBS, Insead, Yale and top B schools?
Aim for 705+ in the GMAT; if you are looking at R1 deadlines, then get your score out of your way by end of June latest.
UG-level ECAs will be less relevant after six years of career; dig into whatever else you are involved in outside of the workplace.
Understand the DNA / fit relevant for each school; it is not one-size-fits-all.

Your academic record is excellent! District Topper + 9 GPA from Symbiosis speaks for itself. However, for ISB, LBS, INSEAD, and Yale SOM, a GMAT Focus score of 655–685+ is where you become truly competitive. Scoring below 640 could hurt you at LBS and INSEAD especially, given their quantitative focus. Hitting 680+ opens doors at all your target schools and significantly strengthens your overall application.
In terms of the work experience, the brands you've worked for make an impact; however, another key factor here would be including International experience that you have seeded from these roles.
I'd love to discuss your profile and preferences in detail over a quick profile evaluation call. If you're keen, feel free to connect and reach out to me : https://www.linkedin.com/in/mrunaldeo1509/ and we can take the discussion from there!
Thanks! Looking forward to connect.
A 685+ FE score shall help you with good positioning at your target schools. For IIMA, GMAT helps, but leadership maturity and impact will matter even more.
Your strengths are clear: brand pedigree, cross-functional strategy exposure, and VC experience (this is your spike). The gap is visible in leadership depth and quantified impact. You must show: (1) decisions you owned, (2) people or initiatives you led, and (3) measurable outcomes (money saved, processes scaled, cohort growth). Your Entrepreneur First experience is gold, position it as ecosystem-building + scaling early-stage ventures, not just operations.
To level up in the next few months: aim for a good GMAT FE score, build 2–3 flagship stories (example, automation impact at Goldman, scaling EF cohort, influencing stakeholders), and refine your goal from generic consulting to something sharper like “strategy consulting focused on venture ecosystems/fintech/startup scaling.” Apply Round 1 for INSEAD/LBS/ISB. You can also explore and add other schools, such as HEC Paris and IESE Business School.
A few questions to sharpen your profile further:
1. What’s your largest quantified impact at Goldman/EF?
2. Have you led teams or owned end-to-end initiatives?
3. Why consulting vs staying in VC/startups?
4. Any international exposure or cross-border projects?
5. What is your current mock score?
Happy to learn more about your ECs, International Exposure, Leadership experience, and what other skills you bring to support your goals.

Priyanka here from ARINGO. You already have a solid foundation for your target schools, strong academics, good brand names on the resume, and experience across finance, strategy, and VC. Your time at Entrepreneur First also adds a different angle to your profile, which helps because it makes your background more dynamic than a typical finance applicant. The move toward consulting after MBA is also understandable from where you are today.
At this stage, the GMAT will be an important factor. For the schools you’re targeting, I’d recommend aiming for at least 675+ on the GMAT Focus. A score closer to 695+ would put you in a stronger position, especially for the more competitive global programs.
Beyond the score, the way your experience is presented will matter a lot. Schools will want to see the actual impact of your work, what you improved, what kind of scale you handled, whether you influenced decisions, led initiatives, or drove measurable results. Since consulting is a fairly common MBA goal, your applications will also need to clearly explain why consulting is the right next step after your VC/finance experience.
I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!
No pressure, no strings - just helpful insights on where you stand and how you can strengthen your chances.
