It's actually very consistent. Despite being talked about frequently, the deferred MBA programs allow in very few people per year.
Look at the average years of work experience. Generally speaking, the business schools want folks with 3-6 years of experience. Someone with 2 years of experience at the junior level really doesn't have enough time in the work force to really bring a ton of value to bear in an MBA class experience. Don't get us wrong - there are very qualified and savvy people at the junior level - but just based on the amount of time they have spent working, there's a limit to what they can pull on anecdotally.
So, that's a long-winded way of basically saying the schools aren't keen on allowing too many folks with 1.5-2 years in period. Now that the deferred MBA programs are a process for getting in, it leaves even fewer spots for those via the normal route. Most of those folks are better off waiting an extra year or two when they will be stronger candidates to fill more available spots.
Does that make sense?
