Re: [x] denotes the largest integer less than or equal to x. If [x] = -1, [#permalink]
[x] denotes the largest integer less than or equal to x. If [x] = -1, which of the following must be true?
example :[3.4]=3 , [2]=2,
[−7.5]=−8, (pattern -7 -1 =-8 )
here, [x] = -1 so,
x= must be some fractions with negative signs with no integral parts. ( 0 -1 = -1)
so , -1<x<0
now , considering critical points,
when x=0, 0, -1, -2, ... all are less than or equal to x. but greatest of them is 0 . so, [x] = 0 in this case. so x cannot be 0.
when x=-1, -1, -1.5 , -2 ,-3 ... all are less than or equal to x. but greatest of them is -1 . so, [x] = -1 in this case. so x can be -1.

so final range −1≤x<0 (must be true)
