I was recently accepted to a top 10 b school program -- we'll call it School A -- and recently put down a first deposit given the deadline. I did NOT apply early decision or early admission to this school; was simply a normal application.
However, my long-time partner applied to a top 3 school -- we'll call it School B -- in round 2, and he was recently invited to interview. I think he has a strong chance of being accepted. I did not apply to School B at any point, but am now weighing whether to do so in round 3. I want to at least give it a shot given we'll have to make some tough decisions if he and I end up being accepted to programs that are not in the same geographic area.
Is it a problem to initiate a brand new application after having already put down a first deposit at School A? I understand that it's generally okay to put down a deposit and wait to hear for final decisions from other schools to which you had previously applied/are still in process, but I haven't seen much information out there regarding initiating a brand new application when you already have a deposit in at another top school My concern is that this would be some sort of ethical violation -- and I wouldn't want School A to somehow find out and rescind my offer of admission. I may be overthinking it, but I just don't know.
Deeply appreciate any advice on this situation.
You are overthinking this way too much. B Schools don't share applicant info with each other. The other thing to consider is HSW acceptance rates in round 3 are near zero so even if you wanted to go to "School B" your likelihood is very low.
