Hi
Gave GMAT today. Scored a pathetic 720.
Did not expect this. Even my lowest mock did not have this.
After 2 months of regular prep, and scores of:
GMATPrep1- 740 (Q50 V40)
Gmat Prep2- 740 (Q50 V40) (Whiteboard)
GMATPrep6- 740 (Q51 V39 IR8)
GMAT Prep5 - 770 (V51 V42 IR8)
GMAT Prep3 - 770 (Q51 V44 IR8)

ALL IN ABSOLUTELY TEST-LIKE CONDITIONS AND ZERO PAUSES EXCEPT 8 MINUTE BREAKS.

Had also given free mocks of MGMAT, Veritas, Kaplan, Experts Global with a similar score range. Atleast better than the actual result.

Real GMAT - 720 (Q50 37)
This feels pathetic. Giving test with a suffocating mask, should not have been this bad. Worse is the fact, that it never seemed that the test was going in the wrong direction. Usually, I know if I am guessing.

I am a female and a Chartered Accountant (CPA equivalent with a Big4 experience of 3 years. Have a stellar academic track record frequent All-India ranks, and a reasonable extra-curricular record. Wanted an admit in an M7 Bschool for 2021 admit. Seems too difficult with this score.

I am confused. Should I retake. The next available date is 1 month later, and I am seriously exhausted of any enthusiasm. Also, should I give GMAT Online instead?

Value your suggestions.

And I think Critical Reasoning is would be the biggest culprit. How to overhaul it?

720 would be about average for M7. If everything else is excellent, I wouldn't sweat too much about it. That said, I would be happier with a 750+ considering it is in your range.

Online GMAT - a big no no in my opinion if you are looking at a 750+ score and not just because of the whiteboard. I would also worry whether adcom would be completely convinced that there was no shady business involved with scores like that.

Get your ESR to see if the CR performance was actually questionable. As for a suffocating mask, it can make a difference. You need to be comfortable though I am sure that you were not focussing on the mask during the test. I would assume that the centres would be maintaining enough social distancing. You can try an easier to wear mask with a face shield at home. If you feel comfortable with those two, that could be the way to go.

Hi Rise and shinee,

I completely understand why a 720 is not good enough for you.
Going by your prep scores it is very evident that you can easily score a 750+.

Usually most prominent 2 reasons for lower than avg scores(750+) in 1st attempt are :

a) lack of familiarity with the testing environment (in this case fase mask).

b ) Emotions: Anxiety, nervousness :- it would help your analysis a great deal if you can do some introspect on your emotions just before or during the exam.

- you just need to reflect on the day and analyse the mental space you were in (sometimes one is not nervous at all before the exam but 'zone out' during it).

- take a few days off, relax, keep your skills sharp and attempt again if you feel like it.

The target you wish to achieve is not too far . I would suggest keep trying .
I am not sure whether this was your 1st attempt but looks like you are already in that 750 + zone . You just need to push yourself a little bit and free yourself from any anxiety /excitement /nervousness .
The mask thing is really not cool but I do have a solution . Design your own mask .
I have made my own mask and at least its better than any other mask out there in market . So while travellinmg to centre you can wear whichever mask you want and then in centre wear comfortable home made mask which should have inner space for nose and lips to breathe and not touch the fabric .

For more info on how to make this mask you can contact me I can guide you on that its not a big deal to make it but this will definitely add more comfort to your overall mask irritation and then you can with all focus think about the question and not mask . :)

Regarding your CR I have developed some techniques we can discuss that too .

All the best .

Hi RiseAndShinee,

First off, a 720/Q50 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest is likely NOT necessary (and as an aside, referring to this type of Score as "pathetic" makes you sound silly). Since you're interested in some highly-competitive Schools, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

With a Q50/V37, you do not have any big "weak spots" in terms of how you handle the Quant or Verbal sections, but if you'd like to know more about this performance, then you might choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define the specific areas that you should work on to score higher. If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.
