Hi Deepti,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day.

If you can answer a few questions, then we should be able to figure this out:

When you took your CATs:
1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take them at home?
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as your Official GMAT?
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
5) Did you ever take a CAT more than once?

Thankfully, the GMAT is a predictable, standardized Test, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. We just have to figure out the specifics of what went 'wrong' so that we can fix them.

Hey,

Thank you for your response. Here are the answers to your questions...
1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections)? - The entire sections
2) Did you take them at home? - Yuppp
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as your Official GMAT? - most of them, yes
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)? In my last mock I did take a longer break, but other than that I normally end up in time. Having said that, I think I do rush a little in verbal, specially when in RC... I lose patience may be
5) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Nope. I did go through the analysis though. In Quant, my major issue is DS, sometimes it's a cakewalk and sometimes, I am breaking my head :( In Verbal, it has been vvery inconsistent.

Regards,
Deepti

Hi Deepti,

The Scaled Scores on your CATs (and on Test Day) fluctuate far too much to be considered consistent - so something had to have been 'off' during your studies (or on Test Day itself). So I have a few questions about your studies:

1) How long did you study?
2) What resources did you use?
3) Did you ever do questions from the Forums here?
4) On what dates did you take your CATs?

5) What did you do in the last week before your Official GMAT?

Hey Rich,

You're right... they do! That's my biggest worry.

1) How long did you study? - I normally study 2 hours on weekdays and 5 hours during weekend
2) What resources did you use? - my major resources - the OGs , Manhattan and now Veritas.
3) Did you ever do questions from the Forums here? Nope... :-D
4) On what dates did you take your CATs? It's majorly weekends when I give my CATs
5) What did you do in the last week before your Official GMAT? I just re-attempted the incorrect and important questions from the OG, read the analysis, and gave one CAT 4 days before my exam. Last two days were a little horrible health wise so didn't have the energy to study much but still checked the questions from OG which I felt were really difficult and the analysis of which were beyond my understanding

Hi Guys,

Need your help... I just attempted my GMAT... score 560 (M44, V27 ) :(
Verbal which has been my strong point, let me down... and surprisingly, Quant went well. I had given a few mocks, majorly Manhattan , score ranging from 690(Q37,V47 - 700 (Q48V37). M planning to give it again but m completely directionless... how to approach, what to do. Badly need your advice guys... HELP!!!!
Hi Deepti, curious to know why you mention: surprisingly, Quant went well, since your mock scores in Quant were higher than your score on the actual GMAT.

Also, did you opt for ESR? Might be a good option. Lastly, what were your scores on GMATPrep?

It is surprising cz though I am an engineer  I am weak in quant :( And I'll be honest , that is the reason I give it more time than verbal. I gave 2 mocks on GMAT Prep tool and my scores were 650 and 690. Sorry, I don't remember the breakups but there my verbal scores were higher than quant.

Now this is surprising that you remember your breakups in Manhattan mocks, but don't remember it on GMATPrep, which is obviously the most authentic mock test :? .
