(D) the PTA discussed at its monthly meeting the possibility of vending machines being removed

(E) the PTA, at its monthly meeting, discussed the possibility of removing vending machines ---Correct

IMO E.

We need a proper noun, PTA for the modifier 'distressed...' to be correct so options A, B and C are out.
Out of D and E, option E is error free as option D incorrectly use 'being'.

+1 for E

(A) the possibility of removing vending machines was discussed by the PTA at its monthly meeting

(B) the removal of vending machines was discussed as a possibility by the PTA at its monthly meeting

(C) removed vending machines was discussed by the PTA at its monthly meeting as a possibility

(D) the PTA discussed at its monthly meeting the possibility of vending machines being removed --> Being changes the intended meaning

(E) the PTA, at its monthly meeting, discussed the possibility of removing vending machines --> Corrects the modifier error. "At its monthly meeting" is modifying the PTA

Distressed by the nutritional content of the junk food sold in the school cafeteria, the possibility of removing vending machines was discussed by the PTA at its monthly meeting.

Distressed by the nutritional content of the junk food---should be followed by the PTA

(A) the possibility of removing vending machines was discussed by the PTA at its monthly meeting

(B) the removal of vending machines was discussed as a possibility by the PTA at its monthly meeting

(C) removed vending machines was discussed by the PTA at its monthly meeting as a possibility

(D) the PTA discussed at its monthly meeting the possibility of vending machines being removed

(E) the PTA, at its monthly meeting(Middle men), discussed the possibility of removing vending machines---Sentence makes proper sense without middle men.

Hence I chose E

(B) the removal of vending machines was discussed as a possibility by the PTA at its monthly meeting

(C) removed vending machines was discussed by the PTA at its monthly meeting as a possibility

(D) the PTA discussed at its monthly meeting the possibility of vending machines being removed

(E) the PTA, at its monthly meeting, discussed the possibility of removing vending machines

Can this question be solved with active and passive voice logic. I used A&P logic and got the correct answer ?

(A) the possibility of removing vending machines was discussed by the PTA at its monthly meeting >> Passive voice

(B) the removal of vending machines was discussed as a possibility by the PTA at its monthly meeting >> meaning was not clear for me

(C) removed vending machines was discussed by the PTA at its monthly meeting as a possibility >> same as A

(D) the PTA discussed at its monthly meeting the possibility of vending machines being removed >> I don't know, being removed seemed wrong. Anyone please explain ?

(E) the PTA, at its monthly meeting, discussed the possibility of removing vending machines

MANHATTAN REVIEW OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

This first question you should ask yourself is: who or what is distressed? The PTA. So the PTA should go immediately after the comma. The only answer choices that reflect this are D and E. D is passive. Choice E is the best answer.
