I'll try to make this as short and to the point as possible. I've been studying for the GMAT 2-3x a week (Fridays, Saturdays, and sometimes Sunday or a weekday at work if it's a slow day) since the start of January. My actual GMAT test is scheduled for April 19th (4 weeks away). Back in December, when I decided I wanted to take the GMAT, I took a baseline practice test and scored a measly 550. When I took that first time, I literally knew absolutely nothing about the test such as how its graded or roughly how long I should be spending per question etc.
Since then, I've began studying at the frequency mentioned above, and have also taken another 4 practice tests scoring 620, 640, 630, and most recently today, another 620.
I find it extremely frustrating that I did not improve and honestly felt I was going to smoke it this time since on the last practice test that I got a 630, I got a 49 in the quant section and had a non-typical bad performance in the verbal scoring only a 27 (yes, terrible, I know. I'm not sure what happened their honestly). I say non-typical because my average verbal scores up until that point were approximately 34. I was slightly dumbfounded as to why I did so poorly on the verbal that go-around because I had actually been focusing on the verbal and studying sentence correction/critical reasoning problems the entire week and half prior.
Every time that I review the problems I answered incorrectly on a practice test, I review the problems and redo them. Nine times out of ten, I answer the problem correctly in under 2 minutes. I feel like I know the material and have the potential to do well, it's just that I start to get flustered when taking the tests because I know that they are timed. I get distracted thinking "I'm taking too long on this problem" as soon as I don't immediately recognize how I'm supposed to solve a problem.
I don't think as clearly when I have that "hurry hurry" mentality during the test.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get past that and perform during a practice test (and real test) as I perform on untimed practice problems and quizzes that I take while I'm studying??
