Hi, I'm applying for deferred admission and all the applications ask for your pre-MBA plans. I have a job offer from a T2 consulting firm set to start Feb 24. MBB recruiting happens in the fall, I plan to apply then and hope to start working there instead.
Should I add that I plan to try and jump firms? And that I had an offer from them two years ago? Like
"What do you plan to do for the next 3-5 years? If you have accepted an offer, please discuss it here."
'I plan to apply to Bain this fall. I previously received an offer from them, which I rejected to pursue XYZ. I have kept in touch with some partners who are helping me with my application and case preparation. I hope to receive an offer from them again this fall. If not, I have an offer from T2 firm. While there, I plan to...'
Then talk about what I plan to do at the T2 firm if I don't get an offer. Or should I not mention it at all? It is my plan though...

In situations like this, I always wonder how much do they want to know the mechanics versus the big picture with a bit of details as illustrations.
I am not an expert in deferred MBA essays or applications and this may be too fancy or too vague. However I think the goal of this essay is to prove that you are responsible and you are employable and to get a sense of where you got in. I would mention that you got an offer from mbb. I think that’s a pretty big accomplishment so I wouldn’t hide it but I would find a good way of explaining why you did not take it and perhaps if there is room, attach the offers you have received….
For example you can say that through the next 3 to 5 years I’m planning to pursue a career in consulting. Here are the reasons why I think that’s a good idea or why that appeals to me.
Then you can talk about offering some details to illustrate that you’re not a dreamer. I have received several offers including from being in the tier 2 consulting company. I chose to pursue the tier 2 instead is it offered better growth and career opportunities or location. Meanwhile I have recently I’ve been approached by Bain and currently discussing with several partners opportunities that will be opening up in the fall. I’m not sure which consulting company I will work for in five years but I I am committed to the space and could not imagine a better career for someone in my position.
Business schools love admitting people who are the top 5% because they will be successful at school and they will be successful after graduating even if the program gives them nothing, they will make the program better and will positively reflect on the program so you want to present yourself as a valuable asset and as a person who has already achieved more than their peers. My 2 cents. Perhaps someone may have a better suggestion who works with deferred applications 😇

Thank you so much for the solid advice! Like you suggested, I ended up mentioning it but primarily focusing on the skills and knowledge I want to gain, which I can do at either firm
