B is the answer Because ethics lie below the AMA’s rules, doctors would avoid recommending illegal drugs, which would prevent them from getting arrested. This undermines the conclusion by suggesting that arrests may never happen.
• (A) talks about patients, not doctors.
• (C) discusses lawyers, which is irrelevant.
• (D) mentions patients getting arrested, which is not the focus.
• (E) talks about the history of certain drugs, but doesn’t address whether doctors will be arrested or not.

Thank you MartyMurray for your help. Are we not assuming one more thing here ?
Are we not assuming that recommending illegal drugs by the doctors is considered ethical on their part ?
The question is totally flawed , I think.

MartyMurray KarishmaB Is this question correct ? Can you please provide your explanation for this question ?
The question doesn't really work because the passage doesn't mention any "(AMA) mandates."

At the same time, if we assume that the "warning" mentioned in the passage is an AMA mandate forbidding recommendation of cannabis, then (B) weakens the case for the conclusion by casting doubt on the conclusion, which is the following:[/color]

it is inevitable that doctors cannot avoid arrest for long

After all, if its true that "For doctors, ethics weigh below the American Medical Association’s (AMA) mandates," then doctors won't likely be arrested since they'll comply with the mandate not to recommend cannabis rather than choose the ethical action of recommending it.

The correct answer here is Option E in my opinion.

The question focuses the Weakening Type. Let's dive into the options!

A) A glaucoma patient suffers no side effects from using cannabis.
This is about patient effects, not the legal consequences for doctors. ❌ Does not weaken

(B) For doctors, ethics weigh below the American Medical Association’s (AMA) mandates.
If doctors follow AMA rules over ethics, they won’t recommend cannabis, which would actually support the idea that they avoid arrest. ❌ Does not clearly weaken.

(C) Lawyers, with professional discretion, can withhold information if the information is damaging to clients.
This is irrelevant. It’s about lawyers, not doctors or the situation at hand. ❌ Does not weaken the conclusion.

(D) Many patients have been arrested for following the advice of doctors.
This supports the seriousness of the law, which strengthens the idea that doctors might be arrested too. ❌ Strengthens, not weakens.

(E) Some drugs now commonly used, such as Novocain, were once illegal to use.
This shows that drugs currently illegal may eventually be accepted, which suggests doctors might not face punishment forever, or that the situation might change in the future, making the idea of arrest not evitable.

Weakens the conclusion.

Doctors face an ethical dilemma with glaucoma patients over the choice between prescribing a legal drug with harmful side effects or recommending the illegal drug cannabis, which works better despite the hallucinations it causes. The American Medical Association (AMA) has posted an official warning to medical practitioners that advising patients to use an illicit drug is forbidden under federal law, and punishment can include prison sentences. While no doctor has been arrested yet, it is inevitable that doctors cannot avoid arrest for long.

Which of the following, if true, would undermine the conclusion derived in the argument

(A) A glaucoma patient suffers no side effects from using cannabis.
(B) For doctors, ethics weigh below the American Medical Association’s (AMA) mandates.
(C) Lawyers, with professional discretion, can withhold information if the information is damaging to clients.
(D) Many patients have been arrested for following the advice of doctors.
(E) Some drugs now commonly used, such as Novocain, were once illegal to use.

That's another interesting point. Yes, there are multiple flaws in this question.
