Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out with your questions. B-schools don't have any set requirements about your prior sector experience, so having a mix is just fine. However, you do need to be prepared to explain the past career decisions you made, why you moved sectors, and how those decisions have led you to this stage of wanting your MBA. As long as you show that kind of self-reflection and are able to connect your past to your future, then I don't see it being an issue.
Teach for India is well regarded, as it's known as a selective program, and b-schools like to see a track record of helping others and serving your community. One challenge I've seen with fellows from TFI and similar programs is making sure you present a logical case for why you need an MBA and very specific post-MBA career goals. For instance, Consulting seems plausible to me but you'll want to be more specific about the kind of consulting project work you want to do, what firms you'll target, and what skills you need to build during the MBA to prepare for that. And also be prepared to show that you've done your research and talked to people in the consulting field.
Regarding work experience, it is usually a bit higher for European schools than US schools, around 6 years is typical. But you can double check the most recent class profile on each school's website.
I also agree with retaking your GMAT. All sections are important, though I think Quant is a bit more important than IR, since IR is still a newer section. But I would still recommend a 6 or higher on the IR section if you're targeting a top school like INSEAD.
Hope that helps, and good luck!

Hi,
I just wanted to understand how does B schools look at an applicant from a mix of sectors. I have prior experience of working in IT consulting form for 4 years and about 6 months in a public health organization where I was working based out of a National health organization. Currently working with TFI as a fellow.
I have got a score of 690 but Im planning to write once again to increase my chances in European and Asian B schools.
My doubts are :
1. How is TFI looked upon by the adcoms in B schools of Europe and Asia especially Insead?
2. What is the work ex required in European B schools?
3. How imporant is IR score?
4. Can I transition to consulting space given this background.
