I would really make sure you actually want to go to bschool before you actually go. It is a lot of money for something your not sold on. I would also caution against totally making your mind up based only on the admit weekend. As stated above that is as rowdy as bschool gets and in every program there are quiet people who you will bond with. Also Durham is a fairly quiet, quaint community if that is what your are looking for, Many of my old classmates used those two years to sort things out and settle on a career and life they were happy with and now had the brand and network and knowledge of an MBA to support them. Given you have a few red flags on your profile with your GPA and work experience it seems getting into Duke was a real success story for you. If I were you I would lean towards going to Duke and sorting things out leaving the work force can be pretty tough on ones career even for a short time particularly given your early struggles during your career. Good Luck and thanks for being so candid!

Fuqua is a big school, and there are different personalities. The more introverted folks are probably not volunteering for BDW. However, given your goals and self-described personality, I think you are wise to reconsider joining the business world, where team work and human interaction is critical for success. $150K compensation is achievable in software engineering, so that’s a route you can consider.

I would advise that you also evaluate what is the minimal you need to attain a satisfactory quality of life. If you currently make $100K, it is very feasible to “retire” early. Other people have successful done so with lower annual compensation. https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/ is a good blog discussing financial independence.

Good luck on your decision.
