During a sale, store ABC was selling apparel at a discount of X percent. What is the value of X?
(1) Rachel purchased a dress at a discounted price which is $50 less than the original price.
(2) If all dresses are priced equally, the amount required to buy 27 dresses at discounted price is equal to the amount required to buy 17 dresses at original price.
My Reasoning:
St1. Not at all sufficient
St2. Let the original price be 'y' and discount be 'x'.
y(1-x%)=27 dresses ......I
y=17 dresses.....II
Substituting the values: we can get x.Likewise if we assume the price of dress as 200, 500
St1. We get that the discount has no unique value
St2. Price of dress = 100
originally we can buy 17 dresses for 1700 and 27 dresses with discount at 1700 we get discount as 37%
price of dress = 200
Buy for 17 =3400, Buy for 27=3400 (3400)/27= 126. Discount 37%
Price = 500
Buy for 17 = 8500, buy for 27= 8500, 8500/27 = (314-500)/100 = 37%
Therefore B alone is sufficient.
Please if someone could help me with the calculation of the Bold portion
