Each packet of SOAP costs Rs. 10. Inside each packet is a gift coupon labelled with one of the letters S, O, A, and P. If a customer submits four such coupons that make up the word SOAP, the customer gets a free SOAP packet. Ms. X kept buying packet after packet of SOAP till she could get one set of coupons that formed the word SOAP. How many coupons with label P did she get in the above process?

A. The last label obtained by her was S and the total amount spent was Rs. 210.
B. The total number of vowels obtained was 18.

Hi lpetroski,

The questions that you'll see on the Official GMAT will be very carefully written and rigorously tested. While the 'logic' behind this question is certainly in the realm of what you'll see on Test Day, the wording is a little vague in spots.

Although the prompt didn't clearly state it, we're meant to assume that:
1) Ms. X. bought packets of soap UNTIL she received at least one of each of the four letters, then she stopped.
2) Using that same logic, the information in Fact 1 implies that the 21st packet she bought gave her the missing letter she needed to complete the full set.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
