'D' is the answer.
let 'x' be the amount that each of 8 friends contributed. The equation becomes:-
8x= 6(x+80)
8x-6x= 480
x= 480/2= 240

let total rent be R
originally each had to pay = R/8
since 2 dropped so now each had to pay = R/6
Given :
R/6 = R/8 +80
(4R-3R)/24 = 80
R= 80*24
Thus originally each had to pay: R/8 ->80*24/8 = 240
Ans: D
