Hi all,
I would love to hear some thoughts on picking recommenders if you've been working on a start-up for a few years. I've asked an investor and VC partner to be one of my recommenders. I have asked a co-founder to be a second recommender but recently I've been reading that this might be a bad idea.
I would appreciate some thoughts on which of these recommenders would be best:
1) Co-Founder - he knows me best and I am positive that he will select concrete examples to highlight my leadership without overdoing it. The problem is that he is a peer and has not worked in a corporate role. He went right from a master's to working on a start-up. Thoughts on such a person as a recommender seem to range from mediocre to bad.
2) Old Supervisor - More objective and seemingly preferred but the experience was over 3 years ago. I worry that the examples might not be as vivid. Not an MBA.
3) Another start-up mentor - I can ask another VC partner or mentor who can objectively speak to my work. They were not as involved with our company but have kept in touch with our progress and knows me well. The examples may or may not pop as much.
Please let me know what you think.
