Hello Everyone,
I took my GMAT in December-2020. It was a great experience and I can not stress enough how crucial GMATClub had been all through my journey. I owe a great deal to this community (and more so to
GMATNinja and
bb).
In an attempt to help fellow GMAT aspirants, I am planning to build a better alternative to
Error Log (the high-maintenance yet unavoidable friend). I liked all 3 versions of the
error log shared
here (Sharuba, Spoilt, and Trianglock) and eventually went ahead with Spoilt's version due to its sweet balance of complexity and utility. Even so, I still feel that starting to use and maintain an
error log needs real effort and time-investment in the beginning. Sharuba, Spoilt and Trianglock have done amazing job with ready-to-use excel sheets but I do feel that a better and easier-to-get-used-to utility would make things much smoother for any GMAT aspirant.
I discussed it with a few of my friends too and here’s what we feel could be a good alternative:
Add Questions (Scan/Upload) → Attempt test → Add answer-key to View ReportExample: Suppose I want to attempt 15 questions of GMAT SC from the OG in 17 mins1) I scan/upload 3 pages of questions from
OG. (approx 18 questions)
2) Now I choose the no. of questions to attempt(15) and set target-time(17 mins).
3) It is converted into online test mode automatically.
4) I attempt each question one by one and complete the test (before the timer ends)
5) I now input answer-key (correct options for each question) and analyse my test

Error Log [Re-Imagined] ---------------------------------------------
⇒ Step-1 (Upload/Scan Questions)⇒ Step-2 (Confirmation/Review) ⇒ Step-3 (Take Test in almost real test conditions)⇒ Step-4 (Add answer-key & View Report/Analysis)⇒ Step-5 (In-Depth Question-Wise Analysis)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Important Features 0)
Free-to-Use (but will accept donations to cover maintenance/development costs)
1) You can attempt everything
“OG, Verbal/Quant Review and any other Question Bank” in almost real test format (provided you have a pdf or printed version available).
2) You will always have all your past self-assessments in one place for review (allows you to
analyse how you improve with time).
3) You can analyse your performance on any no. of selected assessments (allows you to not include assessments that were
disrupted due to external disturbance into analysis).
4) For any selected question, you can see
what your timings were each time you attempted it (allows you to monitor whether your timings are improving in subsequent attempts).
5) All
user data (attempts / timings / analysis reports) will be
stored locally on your device (allows you to attempt tests even when offline).
6)
Optional Alerts if any incorrectly attempted question has not been reviewed for a specific time. (allows you to keep track of your backlog for review of incorrect attempts)
7) Ability to add tags to each question like
“HARD”, “IMP”, “TRICKY” (allows you to review past questions by selected tags).
How You Can Help I am expecting this to take around 1 month to build and to avoid any hiccups as well as to make sure that it actually adds value in the preparation journey of every GMAT aspirant, I would request all fellow GMAT Club members to
take some time out of your schedule to share your views on following:
1) Did you face initial challenges with using an error-log for the first time? (Yes / No)
2) Do you think this utility could be / would have been useful as an
error log? (Yes / No)
3) How likely are you to use it?
a. Will definitely use as my
error log as it will make life easier
b. Will give it a try but not sure if it will be useful
c. Sounds useless / Happy with existing
error log options
4) What platform would you prefer to have it on ?
a. Mobile Phone b. Laptop
5) Would you like to have pre-installed
OG questions to start with?
a. Yes Please! b. Doesn’t Matter
6) Which of the above mentioned features(0-7) do you find the most
useful?
7) Which of the above mentioned features(0-7) do you find the most
useless?
8) Any other suggestions (or any reason why you would not want to use it)?
