Hi Reto,
Thanks for posting the question. Yes , this can be called debatable IMO. I narrowed to D and E and chose D even though there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with E.

It should be there are still instead of there is still

So eliminate A and C

Now numerous practical inventions are made through technology to assist people not the other way round.
and also complete and full kind of mean same thing.so to make it concise use complete
So eliminate E

Now between B and C

if you use integration then use and not as well as
because you integrate is plural..and also integrate this and this is correct idiom

if you like give kudos :)

E changes the meaning of the original sentence.
Original sentence meaning: Numerous practical inventions have been created through technology
Option E meaning: People are assisted through technology

Option D is 100% incorrect. The intended meaning is changed completely in this option
Original sentence says that
Even though inventions have been created, there are still many barriers.
ie despite the fact that there are so many inventions in this field, there are still some barriers

Option D says
Although there are many barriers, many inventions have been created.
ie despite so many problems, inventions have been done.

In GMAT, its always about the meaning and the grammar should help to convey the right meaning and not the other way round.
I have seen so many questions where the options are grammatically correct but fails to convey the intended meaning.
Marking a question just on the basis on grammatical correctness is a big mistake.
Acc to me there is no correct answer to this question.
B could have been the correct option if there were 'and' instead of 'as well as'

1st split : there are still many barriers / there is still.... use plural "ARE" Thus, A and C gone

B Eventhough
D Although
E Although + redundant "complete and full"

Both B and D are correct.....
Eventhough vs Although ( Always prefer Although )

Thus more preferred answer is D.

I would say "and" and "as well as" are both wrong in this case . Since this is a negative sentence ("preventing integration"), the correct conjunction should be "or".

I do not eat cheese AND I do not eat butter = I do not eat cheese OR butter.

..prevent integration into working sphere AND prevent integration into other sectors = prevent integration into working spheres OR other spheres.

The usage is analogous to the following logical identity:

(NOT A) AND (NOT B) = NOT (A OR B)

'Many Barriers' requires plural verb 'are'; hence, A and C are out.

B. Even though through technology numerous practical inventions have been created to assist people, there are still many barriers preventing the complete integration of the disabled into the working sphere as well as. As well as is not right

D. Through technology, numerous practical inventions have been created to assist people although there are still many barriers that prevent the complete integration of the disabled into the working sphere and correct choice

E. Numerous practical inventions have been created to assist people through technology although there are still many barriers that prevent the complete and full integration of the disabled into the working sphere and complete and full are redundant

I do not know of any meaning difference between "even though" and "although" except that "even though" depicts a stronger contrast than the latter. So use of "even though" and "although" probably cannot differentiate the right answer from wrong.

Yes, usage of "as well as" and "and" respectively makes B and D equally wrong!

Nonetheless D is more wrong considering some other aspects:
1. After a short introductory prepositional phrase, a comma is generally not used - "through technology" is a short phrase and does not require a comma after it.
2. A comma is required to separate a main clause and a subordinate clause. In D a comma is missing before "although".

No, the original sentence also depicts a contrast using "even though" in the beginning.

Moroever it is not stated in any official instruction that it is required to maintain the meaning of the original sentence. If there is only one gramatically correct sentence, it would be the correct answer, even if it changes the meaning of the original sentence.
