on that note, is there a reason the group is closed? seems like if you can join gmatclub without approval, you should be able to join the facebook group as easily.

Your Facebook profile is much more personalized than your GMATClub profile (your foto, etc.)
Cheers!

whether or not you can join the group doesnt affect whether people can see your full profile

I dont think adcoms are all that worried about matching people up generally. If so no wonder I got dinged by everyone after I got into Kellogg haha. Schools know people are applying to other places, most know that when they admit folks not everyone is going to show up. Even HBS and Stanford dont have 100% yield.

Schools have admitted to checking facebook and myspace for people. It would be easier to search by name, email, location, company, or whatever than finding people on the gmatclub group. Dont put anything on an open profile anywhere that you wouldnt want people to know.

Many people do not want their names associated with BW or GMATClub while they're still applying or waiting for decisions. If GMATClub Facebook membership was completely open, I probably would have waited until now to join. Just my 2 cents.

dabots, what I meant was if it's completely open, then many people won't join, and we'd miss out on a good opportunity.

but river is right, it's not really closed anyway, we just don't want anyone random who's not on GMATClub to join and troll around.

At the same time we receive inquiries for joining facebook group with a name only without any connection to GMATClub. Will it be reasonable to give permissions to join by PMing also a nick-name for the person, who's joining facebook group?

I would be against letting someone join unless they're also part of GMATClub, at least have a profile up somewhere. The goal is to unite GMATClub members and put a face to a nickname, not to start two separate groups with two different sets of people.

I have a file with a profile from Wiki-GmatClub and real names with photos from Facebook. Is there a way to post a file at Facebook? Either way I can open some ftp account and update this file there.

R.E.D., I would caution against explicitly linking someone's real name and their GMATClub profile in Facebook or GMATClub, to protect people's privacy. There are certain things we will say (that's easily searchable) about one school or another that if it's super easy for an adcom to associate with a real name, could hurt us down the road.

I for one would probably remove myself from Facebook and request the link to my name be removed if this file were to be posted. Thanks.

Can people who arent members of the group read the wall or threads. That seems to be where a lot of folks have said who they are. Just ask people who they are on the board when they ask to join and then accept them. It can be up to them to post who they are if they want.
