Ferman can do a job in 6 days and Kelly can do the same job in 8 days. They both undertake the job for $640. With the help of Mary, they finished it in 3 days. How much was paid to Mary?
Let's use LCM method to solve this time & work related question.
Assume the total work be LCM ( 6,8) = 24 units
Per day work of Ferman = 24/6 = 4 units/day
Per day work of Kelly = 24/8 = 3 units/day
With the help of Mary, they finished it in 3 days.
Per day work of Ferman, Kelly and Mary combined = 24/3 = 8 units/day.
For the above statement, we can figure out the per day work of Mary .
Per day work of Mary = 8 - ( 4 + 3 ) = 8-7 = 1 unit/day.
$640 will be shared among Ferman, Kelly and Mary based on their per day work ( Work rate ) that is in the ratio 4:3:1
Amount paid to Mary = 1/8 * 640 = 80 $
Option B is the right answer. Thanks,
