Hi anshul1208,

You've 'hinted' at a couple of 'issues' in your post, so I'm hoping that you can answer a few questions about how you've studied. Based on what you've described though, I don't think it's practical to assume that you'll score 650+ in one month's time, so you'll have to consider pushing back your Test Date.

1) How long did you study?
2) What resources did you use?

When you took your CATs:
1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take them at home?
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as your Official GMAT?
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?

The GMAT is a predictable, standardized Test, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. We need to properly define what went 'wrong' though, so that you can put in the necessary time and effort to fix it.

Hey Rich,

Thanks for the reply. Here are the answers to your queries :-

1. I studied for 7 months on and off. During last month I started to forget what I learnt at the start of my prep.
2. I used OG 13 / Verbal and Quant review / Even attended classes for the verbal section.

I took CAT last week itself.
1. I used to take only verbal and Quant section tests
2. Mostly CAT I took them at home.
3. I did not took exams at the same time of my oficial GMAT
4. I took break more than 8 mins in between.

I know I have to amend my ways. Should I brush up the concepts or focus on the timed questions and CATS?
What source should I start my prep now?

I need a plan and need to focus on that to achieve my target but from where to start exactly. I do not want to end up revising the concepts again and not able to take timed tests.

Thanks and Regards
Anshul

Hi Anshul,

From what you described, you were not consistent with your studies (and it sounds as though you just did not have a good overall study plan in place when you started). To hit your goal scores, both of those issues have to be 'fixed.'

Practice CAT scores are only as realistic as YOU make the process of taking the CAT. The more the 'CAT-taking event' deviates from what you'll face on Test Day, the more likely the score is to be inaccurate (and in most cases, that means "inflated"). By skipping sections, taking the CATs at home (and at different times) and taking longer breaks between sections, you were not properly training yourself to face the Official GMAT.

While I'm certain that you could score at a higher level (and even hit your score goals), you're going to need to be consistent with your studies and work with the proper materials to guide you through the overall process. My guess is that another 2-3 months of consistent study time will be required.

1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) Do you know what Schools you plan to apply to?

Hi Rich,

According to my profile and prospects I need to get a higher score in order to get into top universities in US. I have not decided which universities to apply yet.
Just have some ideas about 2-3 universities in all which falls under top 20 ranking system.

Can you suggest how to start my prep as I already mentioned in my first post. This is bugging me most right now as I have started Manhattan CR book.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Anshul,

Considering everything that you've described, doing more 'book-work' is probably not going to get you the results that you're looking for. As such, you might want to consider investing in a GMAT Course of some type (either Guided Self-Study or instructor-led). Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at out site (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

If you have any additional question, then just let me know.
