Hi Rich,

Thanks for your answer

I only used the official guide so far (made most PS exercises and SC since that is the only verbal section where I make mistakes). I am reading the math + SC strategy guides from Manhattan and I purchased additional tests.

I am planning to apply in the beginning of January for the business schools.

Hi Janielle,

Thanks for your help, I will not take private tutoring/ online classes since this is not my style of learning. It was the official GMAT practice test and I am taking the test 16 December.

A Q40 is actually kind of low (the median Q score is 42) and would be a red flag for top MBA programs. Since you don't have much time it might be best to focus on the math. Get all the resources you can - online courses from Magoosh and EMPOWERgmat, as well as the MGMAT books if time allows - you'll probably need to devote most of your free time here.

The V40 is good, though... just keep it up, and if you can even improve a point or two that would be great.

Don't waste time on the AWA or IR.

Hi neenpaques,

The OG is a great book for practice questions, but it's not designed to teach you Tactics, patterns or the little 'secrets' to the GMAT. Since you have a relatively short timeframe, you're to learn all of those important aspects to the GMAT, you'll likely need to invest in some additional resources. As you continue to study, you should also plan to take a new FULL-LENGTH CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) every 1-2 weeks, so that we can track your progress.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Hmmm ... It is perfectly fine to go for one way of study or other.
The bottom line is to go through a preparatory course/book that will teach you concepts and fundamentals in the Quants portion.
You are currently at Q40 and can easily gain points by putting in some efforts in learning the fundamentals.

Once you are through with the fundamentals, solve problems not only from the OG, but from the other resources too.
