Hi All,

I took my first GMAT practice Test today on GMAT prep software and scored 620 ( Q47, V28 )

Verbal ( 40 Questions, 14 Incorrect)
Incorrect
    Sentence Correction - 6
    Critical Reasoning - 4
    Reading Comprehension - 4

Quant ( 37 Questions, 15 Incorrect )
Incorrect
    Problem Solving - 5
    Data Sufficiency - 10

1. Is this a good start without any serious preparation ?
2. Please help me in understanding the scaled score as i answered more percentage of questions correct in verbal than quant ?
3. What should be my strategy for the next one month of preparation as i will be taking GMAT in the 3rd week of Jan 2018 ?

Starting with 620 - Great!!
How many questions you marked correct is not the right measure. GMAT algorithm considers COMPLEXITY of question marked wrong/right to calculate the score.

For next 30 days focus on:
Doing official questions in verbal
Revising the learnings
Doing questions from gmatclub CATs and from official sources for Quant
Do not burn out taking too many CATs.
Rely on official CAT scores - if these scores are too far the expected score then you might consider rescheduling the exam.

If there is any follow-up questions then please post.

The GMATPrep tests are the best indicators to your actual performance.
Additionally, I would recommend you to purchase the GMATPrep
Official bundle (Exam Packs 1 & 2, Question Pack 1). The questions
pack will give you access to more "official" questions, along with the
OG. Once you are familiar with the concepts, you should start
taking these tests.

Schedule your test as follows:

7 days from now - GMATPrep Free test2
15 days from test - GMATPrep EP1 Test 1
10 days from test - GMATPrep EP1 Test 2
6 days from test - GMATPrep EP2 Test 1
3 days from test - GMATPrep EP Test 2

After every test, analyze your performance and work on your
weak areas. All the best with your preparation!

Hope this helps you!

Hi TurningPages,

Assuming that you took this CAT in a realistic fashion, then a 620 is a strong initial CAT Score (the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around 540-550 most years). That having been said, raising a 620 to a 740+ will likely take at least another 2-3 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Based on the timeframe that you've described, you have just 5-6 weeks of available study time though. As such, you might need to push back your Test Date and/or change your Score Goal.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?

Goals:
3) What is your exact Test Date?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
5) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Hi ,

Took second mock test from GMATprep EP1 yesterday and scored 670 ( Q50, V31)

Verbal ( 32 Questions, 8 Incorrect , 9 Unattempted )
Incorrect
    Sentence Correction - 4
    Critical Reasoning - 4
    Reading Comprehension - 0

Quant ( 37 Questions, 8 Incorrect )
Incorrect
    Problem Solving - 2
    Data Sufficiency - 6

I started my prep, after taking first mock 620 ( Q47, V28) on 10th Dec, with videos on SC by GMATPrepNow last week and it has helped me in attempting the Verbal section with more confidence than earlier . But, i was being very cautious which did cost me time and resulted in 9 unattended questions .

Resources which i have currently are :
Official Guide 2016
Verbal Review 2016
GMATPrep EP1 , EP2
GMAT Question Pack 1

1. Is there any penalty if questions are unattended ?
2. Any suggestions on time management for the Verbal Section
3. I review my incorrect answers from the mocks, OGs and others . How to make the reviews more efficient ?
4. Online resources for Data Sufficiency and Critical Reasoning .

That is definitely a good start. However, the difficulty of the questions i an important aspect that should be looked into too. Also try and analyse the questions which are taking the maximum amount of time and aim to improve that.

Thank you, happy prepping :)

Hitting V31 after 9 unattempted questions is a really good score. The penalty of not attempting a question is very high as compared to getting a question wrong. so make sure you complete all the questions.
I would say you are on course to hit a good score.
