For a physical fitness test, scores are determined by the expression 2ps – 45m, where p and s are the numbers of push-ups and sit-ups an athlete can do in one minute for each activity and m is the number of minutes the athlete takes to run a mile. During the test, Abraham did 21 push-ups and 30 sit-ups and ran the mile in 10 minutes. Javed got the same score, but did 4 more push-ups and ran the mile in 12 minutes. How many sit-ups did Javed do in one minute?

(A) 16
(B) 19
(C) 25
(D) 27
(E) 35

Abraham's score$$=2*21*30-45*10=1260-450=810$$

Javed's score $$= 2*25*s-45*12=50s-540$$, equate the two equations to get

$$50s-540=810=>50s=1350 => s=27$$

For Abraham . p = 21, s = 30 & m = 10
$$2ps-45m = (2*21*30)-(45*10) = 1260 - 450 = 810$$

For Javed, p = 21+4 = 25, m = 12 & s= ?
$$2ps-45m = (2*25*s) - (45*12) = 50s - 540.$$

It is given that Abraham's Score is equal to Javed's
$$50s - 540 = 810$$
$$50s = 1350$$
$$s = 27.$$

We can create the equation:

2 x 21 x 30 - 45 x 10 = 2 x 25 x s - 45 x 12

1,260 - 450 = 50s - 540

810 = 50s - 540

1350 = 50s

27 = s
