For all numbers a and b, if the operation $ is defined by a$b = ab/2, then 3$(5$8) =

A 10
B 20
C 30
D 40
E 60

IMO C

Given a$b = ab/2

3$(5$8) =?

5$8 = 40/2 = 20

3$(20) = 60/2 =30

Given that \(\frac{a$b = ab}{2}\) and we need to find the value of 3$(5$8)

Lets start by finding the value of 5$8

To find 5$8 we need to compare what is before $ in 5$8 and a$b

=> We need to substitute a with 5 and b with 8 in \(\frac{a$b = ab}{2}\) to get the value of 5$8

=> \(\frac{5$8 = 5*8}{2}\) = 5*4 = 20

=> 3$(5$8) = 3$20

Similarly, \(\frac{3$20 = 3*20}{2}\) = 3*10 = 30

So, Answer will be C
Hope it helps!
