Difference in price of a color copy between Shop Y and X = 2.75 - 1.25 = 1.5
Number of color copies = 84
Amount by which charge is greater at Shop Y than in Shop X = 1.5* 84 = 126

Answer C

Hi All,

In these types of questions, some basic arithmetic is all that's really required to get to the correct answer. You CAN potentially save some time though, depending on how you CHOOSE to do the math.

The difference in the two prices is $2.75 - $1.25 = $1.50, so each color copy will cost an extra $1.50 at Print Shop Y (compared to what the copy would cost at Print Shop X). Since we're asked for the difference in the prices or 84 copies, we just have to multiply the numbers...

(84)($1.50)

You might actually find it easier/faster to do the work this way though...

(84)($1) + (84)($0.50)

84 x 1 = 84
84 x 1/2 = 42
Total = $126

If you're a Test Taker who has a pacing problem in the Quant section, sometimes a big cause of the 'issue' is in how YOU choose to do the work on questions that you answer correctly.

(A) $84.00
(B) $105.00
(C) $126.00
(D) $231.00
(E) $336.00

Bunuel

is this really a Gmat question? Or was it designed to make the concepts stronger?
Do we see such question under 600-700 difficulty level on actual GMat?

Hi rohan89,

YES, you will see questions as straight-forward as this on Test Day. This type of question wouldn't normally rank in the 600-700 range though (depending on the wording, details, numbers, etc. it may be at the low end: 600-or-so).
