1. The author is primarily concerned with

Author presents a study regarding why is important than how to achieve a goal, elucidated this study and presents a conclusion.

Option E encapsulates this and is the correct choice.

2. Which of the following statement can be derived on the basis of the analysis done by the study authors?

Was confused between A and B.

but A is inconsistent with the info.

Last para mentions that planning can be helpful in some situations

Hence, Option B is correct choice.

3. Through the second paragraph, the author of the passage intends to

The purpose of the second para is to explain the study mentioned in the para 1. elucidate is the key word pointing to explanation.

Option B mentions the same.

4. Each of the following is a statement that is mentioned with respect to the study described in the passage EXCEPT
A. The feasibility of a plan is dependent on whether a person has an understanding of why the plan is devised. -- Refer to the last lines of para 3. there are cases when this strategy may not be effective.
B. In the experiment to save money, those who planned explicitly did not perform better than those who understood why but planned implicitly.-- Mentioned in the starting lines of para 3.
C. The strategy to keep an open mind and focus on the reason behind achieving the goal can help when alternate means of achieving the goal exist.-- rewording of the last lines of para 2
D. People focusing on the reason behind achieving a particular goal are likely to consider other goal-directed activities that may not have been a part of the original plan.-- Mentioned in last few lines of para 2
E. People fixated on the how aspect of a plan tend to ignore such opportunities that are not a part of their original plan.-- Mentioned in last few lines of para 2

5. Which of the following is an example of a scenario in which the strategy suggested by the authors of the study in the last sentence of the passage would be most effective?
Following is an excerpt from para 3.
Quote:
They suggest that this strategy is particularly effective when the original plan turns out to be unrealistic in terms of feasibility or when other goal-directed activities become available.
Based on this, we can conclude option D is correct.

BARUAH
In Q2: How can we eliminate option A ?
My understanding : Entire passage says focusing on how is not good, success goes down => Less feasible => so option A can be inferred .
Plz help.

BARUAH
2. Which of the following statement can be derived on the basis of the analysis done by the study authors?
A. Fixating on how to achieve a goal makes the plan less feasible
My Analysis: Incorrect.
Reason: the para doesn't refer to feasibility of options. here's summary
Para 1: Introduces How VS Why and suggests an experiment with one observation.
Para 2: Explanation of the observation is provided. Author cited another example by comparing How VS Why w.r.t. considering out-of-plan opportunities
Para 3: Author provides a conclusion.
For me 'feasible' means: evaluating which option can i implement and which option can i not implement. Do i have any limitations in implementing one plan over another. I may look at different factors and then conclude which options should i take.
But author didn't mention all these points while analyzing How VS why. so we can't necessarily conclude that implementing 'how' is less feasible than implementing 'why'.
I hope this is clear now.

B. Planning can be more effective in certain circumstances
My Analysis: Looks Good - HOLD ON.
Reason: the para doesn't refer to feasibility of options. here's summary

C. A good strategy is one that always accounts for every possible opportunity available to achieve a particular goal
My Analysis: Incorrect.
Reason: Not given in para -- esp 'every possible opportunity'

D. People who want to save money get fixated on little details and lose sight of the big picture
My Analysis: Incorrect.
Reason: The para is not not talking about big OR small picture. The para refers to ppl with 'how' mentality not choosing another option that is beyond their plan.

E. Out of all the aspects of a plan, the why aspect is the most important to achieve the desired goal.
My Analysis: Incorrect.
Reason: not given

with above reasoning, we can conclude that B is the suitable answer. pls let me know if you need more details.
