Fordham or U or Rochestor (Simon)

Question

Hello guys, I was wondering which of the two schools the majority of the people here would choose. I've thought about attending U of Rochester currently ranked around 30th, but recently Fordham won the Global Investment Research Challenge which I see it as a big boost... I'm wondering if Fordham's MBA is undervalued? Can anyone please give some insight and your opinion on which school to attend if you want to pursue, I-banking/PE/Investment Management? Thank you.

I don't know much about U of Rochester, but I attended Fordham GSB info session for their MBA program back in 2008 (while I was researching various MBA programs for my applications).

Although Fordham's undergrad and other graduate schools (Law School, etc) enjoy pretty good reputation, their graduate business program was not impressive at all. In terms of what they call graduate business school "facilities", it was just one floor in their main building which they share with undergraduates. Their computer lab was small as a closet. I was told that they don't have many daytime classes for FT students because most classes are taken with PT students between 6pm and after. Also for finance, I was told by a current student during my campus visit that not one major Wall Street bank visits the campus for summer internship or FT recruiting.

For me, I just thought if I didn't get in anywhere in R1 and R2, I would apply there as a PT option. 
Perhaps it would be best for you to visit both schools before making any decisions. Good luck.

Wow that gives me a big insight on my decision!! From what you explained, it seems like Fordham is really lacking in their program...perhaps I should defer enrollment for MBA this year and reapply to get better schools next year. I figured if I was going to spend 100k/yr on B-School, I better get everything out of it.

I feel the same way about Fordham. I was completely underwhelmed by their facilities and lack of a true full-time program. Until they get a dedicated building and differentiate the FT vs. the PT (you can switch back and forth), they will continue to fall in the rankings.

Simon is a top 30 school. I am applying this fall, not only because of their reputation, but because they have a true, traditional business-school program. Like you said, if you're going to spend the money, you may as well get the full experience.
