There is credit to your point of not building your resume to improve admission chances.
But when you want to consider a good B School as a critical part of your career plan, it aligns certain criteria in a different way. Its like going to a west coast college so that you will have a better chance of working in the west coast ( assuming this is what you wanted before coming to college). This is certainly not to say that I would do it solely for the purpose of getting to B school.
Its like in A + B = C, I want to get to C. But I need B for that. But for B, I need A.
Well Understood that HBS requires you to be a lot more than a Blue chip candidate , especially with all the commotion around rejecting the PE types ( blue chips, arguably) this year. But assuming all other statistics good enough, how much of a difference would it make when I shift to a fortune 500 without a change in job function, role and location.
