I started my GMAT Prep in July 2022. I gave a mock and scored a 650. I was really happy with my initial score of 650 ( Q49 V30 ). I assumed that the journey ahead would also be easy. But the road ahead was not so straightforward. I had read about the 650-700 plateau which is a challenging one to cross. I immediately looked up for online gmat courses and
e-gmat seemed the most convenient to me. A few of my friends had also recommended it to me. So I signed up for it.
I immediately fell in love with the course. Right from the foundational concepts ( Master Comprehension, Quant Basics ), the course has everything. All the concept files are really well made with the proper techniques that can help you ace any question. Basically, the course helps you in building your ability that helps you in solving the questions. Concept files are followed by Application Files and then practice files. Each sub-topic has to be cemented by doing cementing quizzes. The scholaranium and its analytics also really helped me. I could figure out which are my weak topics, which are my weak sub-topics, my overall accuracy level, how much time I spent on each question, basically everything. You can ask any question in the forum and you get replies within a day.
So I took the exam on 24th Nov, 2022 and scored a 660. I was shocked. Even after so much preparation, there was only a 10 point improvement. Now here's what went wrong. First of all, Thanks to Dhruv, my strategy expert who guided me throughout on my journey. During the later phases of my prep, I didn't listen to strategy experts and studied verbal in reverse order : RC, then CR, then SC. I didn't practice the Sigma Mocks. I didn't practice giving the exam in a timed manner. So even though I knew the concepts, I was good at them, the timing part had me. On the final day I did score a Q49 but I got a V32. In the verbal part, I got anxious, focussed more on timing and that led to a bad performance.
The last date for my college application was 4th Dec, 2022. That means I couldn't take the in-center test again. So I booked the Gmat online this time ( The online Gmat required lots of other prep as well ). The strategy experts told me not to book too soon. But I felt I could crack it. In the week before the exam, I practiced the questions from Scholaranium and OG on my weak topics. I attempted all the Medium and Hard Questions from Scholaranium and OG and solved all of them in a timed environment. I even took the practice quizzes and scored around 700. This time, listening to my instinct, I switched the order of solving the sections. I decided to attempt verbal first and then quant, even though my expert had told me not to switch the ordering at the last moment. I was just wishing to cross the 700 mark. When the score popped up, I screamed out loud, as I had scored a 730 ( Q49 V41 ). Because I started with Verbal, my mind was really fresh and i could solve verbal questions accurately. Quant was second and Quant was also my strong point, so I could still score a Q49.
