Hi Experts,

I am an MBA-Aspirant and trying to tackle the GMAT beast. I recently gave the GMAT and got a score of 690(Q-49 V-34 IR-7 AWA - AWAITED).I was a little disappointed with the score as i was constantly getting 720 in the GMAT Prep Mocks. Now there are some questions which are bothering me:

1) Would i be able to get into a decent school with such a score ?What schools should i target?
2) Should I retake the test and try getting a higher score?

Some background info: I am an Engineer and completed by Bachelors in Engineering from one of the top 20 universities in India with a CGPA of 7.2/10 . Presently I am working as a software Developer with a IT firm. Please let me know what other information is required.

Any advice/ help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I am assuming you aspire to be in a top ranked university. If you have an extremely rare profile, 690 may just be able to cut it, but these days the demand for higher %ile is ever greater so if you can afford time, continue your usual GMAT passive study routine and cement the weak concepts and if you are afforded time, give it your best shot. If you can post more details on your profile, experts here can probably rate your chances better of getting in a good college with this score.

Hi jedit,

Thanks for the reply!

Regarding my profile, I do not boast of a rare profile. I have 3 yrs of experience in IT industry with no International Exposure. I do have some leadership experience but it is not something that will make my profile rare.

Hi Yash,

I'm sorry to hear that. Usually people score at least what they have in their recent practice tests, if not more. Based purely on your GMAT score You can get into Top 20-50. But you also know that a lot depends on other aspects of your profile, such as no.of years of work ex, quality of your work ex, international experience, community service, achievements and so forth.
When are you planning to apply ? If you're planning for R1, you're cutting it too close. I would be happy to schedule a free call to discuss your profile further. Hope this helps.

Best,

Hi

You answered half your question. Now list the programs you are targeting and then read more about them. the top most programs usually get the top rated candidates who have excelled at gmat too. if this hyperbole gives you any idea, 700 is fast becoming the new 600, more so than the proverbial 'forties is the new thirties'.
